Words that Work

We believe in treating people seeking asylum, who are fleeing danger to rebuild their lives in safety, with fairness and empathy. However, since, the Tampa Affair in 2011, the demonisation of people seeking asylum by our government has lead to inhumane treatment and policies.

As the Federal election approaches the Scott Morrison government has already begun using scaremongering tactics and vilifying language to justify cruel policies.

We saw with the "Let Them Stay" campaign and Kids off Nauru, the refugee justice movement can win when it re-centers the issue on what really matters; fairness, justice and humanity, and how we need to treat people the way we want to be treated.

Come and join us at this special messaging workshop for ASRC volunteers based on ground-breaking research "Words that Work" by Anat Shenker-Osorio.

Whether you are having conversations with friends at dinner or an activist on the streets, knowing the right messaging is a powerful way of combat negative rhetoric, shift people attitudes to build public support. See you there 💪
