There is a growing discomfort in our communities about how our Government is choosing to treat people seeking asylum. Now, more than ever, we need to be building close relationships with our politicians to show they will be supported when advocating for change.
This meet up will be all about building a relationship with your local member of parliament: using the #RightTrack framework to have inclusive, values-based conversations.
We're really lucky to be joined by Anna Burke, the former Member for Chisholm and Speaker of the House.
Anna will give us an invaluable insight into what it's like to be lobbied by a community, which will guide us in how we can build productive relationships with our own local politicians to enact change.
We will also hear from Danijel Malbasa, a lawyer who himself has lived the benefits of a fair and just asylum process after being resettled from the former Yugoslavia. Danjiel will share his vision for humane and respectful alternatives to the current system, speaking from both his lived experience and work assisting people going through the process now at Refugee Legal.
